- 초록 (Abstract)
- This study aimed at exploration on how the nurses would do spiritual care for their patients in terminal stage at hospice ward setting in general hospitals because there are lack of knowledge on structured spiritual care that nurses are supposed to do.
To delineate consensus opinions on spiritual care in hospice care ward, focused group analysis method was applied in this study
The data were collected during August and November 2011 and the study groups were the 6 Care Center nurses and ministers of six. This study employs the focus group interview analysis as a research method. Each group was interviewed three times at K. University Medical Hospital in Seoul. The data was analysed by content analysis.
As a results, 79 sub-categories in 26 categories, 10 themes formulated through 26 categories, and 10 themes classified into 7 domains; Hospice nursing model, spiritual care goals,
patient assesment on spiritual needs, spiritual care modalities,
spiritual care program for the nurses, spiritual care -multi -disciplinary team approach, and spiritual care support system.
The seven domains are;
1. Hospice nursing model.
Hospice nursing model characterized as nurses should be a companion with a patients in end of life until patient's death, and be capable of communicating with dying patients on physio- psycho- spiritual aspect.
2. Spiritual care goals.
Spiritual care goals in hospice care characterized as having patients get last opportunity for growth. To achieve the spiritual care goal, nurses help patients to accept their death as natural life process in peace.
3. Patient assessment on spiritual needs.
To provide proper spiritual care in hospice ward, nurses should assess patients' changing spiritual needs in every duty shifts. Patients' assessment tools for spiritual care should reflect patients' changing ambivalent needs on death, therefore to evaluate terminally ill patients' spiritual needs, the detailed and clear specific to changing patients' spiritual needs assessment tool should be developed.
4. Spiritual care modalities.
Spiritual care modalities being suggested in hospice ward are patient's end of life care process that are managed like laboring process to give a birth by nurses, having patients reflecting their meaning of life, and supporting patients to enjoy every moment as meaningful time.
5. Nursing education program for the spiritual care.
For nursing education program for spiritual care in hospice ward, experience in lying in the coffin to share the experience the end of life with patients, communication skills method, and stress management program to overcome nurses' burnout are proposed.
6. Spiritual care - multi-disciplinary team approach,
Spiritual care in hospice ward, multi disciplinary team approach is imperative. To be effective, the basic attitudes of team approach are showing respect on other professionality and recognizing differences in a team approach.
7. Spiritual care support system
For spiritual care in hospice ward, nurses spiritual care should be integrated as structured formal care in daily nursing care. To formalize spiritual care in hospice settings, spiritual care methods should be introduced both in-service education and undergraduate nursing education. - 목차 (Table of Contents)
