국문 초록[abstracts]
좋은 인간과 좋은 시민의 관계, 시민적 인성의 문제를 논의하려면 어디에서부터 시작해야 하는가. 이에 대한 현대의 가장 유력한 이론은 자유주의이다. 자유주의 시민성은 자유와 평등, 인권, 관용, 프라이버시 등 고대인들이 미처 알지 못했던 수많은 고귀한 가치들을 일구어냈다. 하지만 일찍이 토크빌도 경고하였듯이, 오늘날 자유주의 시민성은 적지 않은 문제점을 낳고 있다. 자유주의를 재고함에 있어 본 연구가 제시하는 대안은 고전적 공화주의의 관점이다. 고전적 공화주의의 관점은 탐욕과 무절제가 만연되고, 자유와 방종을 구분하기가 점점 더 힘들어져버린 오늘날의 현실에 대해 많은 시사점과 대안적 처방을 내리도록 도와준다. 자유주의의 문제점을 자유주의 안에서 반성적으로 극복하기보다는 고전적 공화주의의 관점에서 바라볼 때 보다 더 잘 진단할 수 있음을 주장하고자 한다.
다국어 초록[Multilingual Abstract]
Today liberalism is the most prominent theory on democratic citizenship. Modern society is characterized by liberal values such as freedom, equality, tolerance, privacy, human right and so on. This study attempts to present some important suggestions for character education of moral subject education by paying attention to liberal citizenship. However as Tocqueville has warned, liberal citizenship reveals some critical deficiencies like selfishness, alienation, fragmentation, lack of virtue and dismantling of community, etc. The main argument in this study is that liberal citizenship requires classical republican values Plato, Aristotle and Cicero present in order to complement these deficiencies.
