초록[abstracts]
피터 싱어는 『동물해방(animal liberation)』에서 동물의 직접적인 도덕적 지위를 인정하고, 동물실험을 종차별주의의 대표적인 사례로서 강력하게 비판한다. 이 논문에서는 피터 싱어 사상의 이론적 기초를 이루는 감응력 이론, 이익평등고려의 원칙을 중심으로 동물실험에 반대하는 피터 싱어의 입장을 살펴본다. 그리고 동물실험 찬성논변에 대한 피터 싱어의 비판을 검토하여 문제점을 밝힌다. 동물실험 찬성논변은 유사성 논변, 이익 논변, 대안 부재 논변이 대표적이다. 이 논변을 비판하는 과정에서 드러나는 피터 싱어 이론의 문제점은 인간과 동물의 본질적인 차이(반성적 도덕성) 간과, 인간 존엄성 훼손 등이다. 이 논문의 목적은 동물실험에 대한 피터 싱어의 입장을 비판적으로 검토해 보는 것이다. 그리고 궁극적으로는 피터 싱어의 사상이 가진 문제점과 한계를 보완하여 동물에 대한 바람직한 관점과 동물실험에 관한 최선의 입장을 도출하는 것이다.
Peter Singer has acknowledged a direct moral status of animals in the animal liberation. And he strongly criticized animal experiments as a prime example of speciesism. This paper looks at the position of Peter Singer opposed to animal experiments around the 'limit of sentience theory' and 'the principal of equal consideration of interests' forming the basis of the theoretical ideas of Peter Singer. And says the problem by reviewing the critique of Peter Singer on the argument in favor of animal experiments. Argument in favor of animal experiments is representative of 'similarity argument', 'interests argument', 'no alternative options argumentation'. Peter Singer of the problems revealed in the course of criticizing this argument would overlook the essential difference between humans and animals -reflective morality-, damage to human dignity. The purpose of this paper is to critically review by the position of Peter Singer on animal experiments. And ultimately it is intended to complement the problems and limitations of the theory of Peter Singer. Also to derive the best position on animal experiments and the desired point of view on animals.
