초록[abstracts]
[본 연구의 목적은 “(신경과학의 발견 사실에 대한) 신경윤리학의 도덕적 설명은 도덕적 정당화를 대체할 수 없다.”라는 주장을 검증함으로써 신경과학 시대의 규범윤리학의 고유한 가치와 역할을 논구하는 것이다. 본 연구는 이를 위해 신경 과학과 신경윤리학이 규범윤리학에 제기하는 ‘뇌 결정론과 환원론, 그리고 자유의 지의 문제’와 ‘도덕 판단에 대한 신경윤리학의 설명 문제’라는 도전적 과제를 규범 윤리학의 관점에서 비판적으로 논구한다. (1) 인간의 판단과 행위의 물리적 원인과 도덕적 이유는 구분되는 것이기 때문에, 뇌의 신경 활동에 대한 신경과학의 기술적 설명이 인간의 판단과 행위의 도덕적 이유 내지 정당화 근거를 대체할 수는 없다. (2) 신경윤리학은 신경과학의 연구 결과로부터 도덕적 당위 내지 도덕규범을 도출할 수는 없으며, 인간의 도덕 판단에 대한 신경윤리학의 설명이 도덕의 규범적 근거에 기반을 둔 도덕적 정당화를 대체할 수도 없다. 그러므로 우리는 신경과학 시대에도 도덕의 규범적 근거를 정초하고 도덕적으로 정당화될 수 있는 행위를 유발하는, 즉 도덕적 정당화 기능과 도덕적 행위 동기화 기능을 수행하는 규범윤리학의 고유한 가치와 역할을 인정해야 한다. 그리고 신경과학(신경윤리학)은 규범윤리학의 고유한 역할 수행에 간접적으로 기여할 바가 있기 때문에, 우리는 규범윤리학과 신경과학(신경윤리학)의 상호작용을 조심스럽게 추구하는 것도 요청된다,
The purpose of this paper is to justify the status and roles of normative ethics in the age of neuroscience by answering the question “Can moral explanation of neuroscience replace moral justification of normative ethics?” By doing so, I have critically investigated ‘the problems of brain determinism, reductionism, and free will’ and ‘the problems of moral explanation of neuroethics to moral judgment’. (1) Although neuroscience can explain neural activity of one’s brain, it cannot replace the justifying reasons of one’s moral judgment. (2) Neuroethics cannot derive ‘ought’ or moral norms from the results of neuroscience. Although neuroethics can explain the cause of one’s moral judgment and action, it cannot replace moral justification of normative ethics. Therefore we should acknowledge the status and roles of normative ethics which justify one’s moral judgment and motivate one’s moral action. Because neuroscience (neuroethics) can indirectly contribute to normative ethics, the interaction between normative ethics and neuroscience (neuroethics) should be carefully pursued.]
