생명과학Ⅰ에서 윤리적 궁지 해결 수업이 의사결정 능력에 미치는 영향

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)
In order to enhance scientific literacy, the purpose of science education, the 2015 revision sets scientific problem-solving and scientific communication skills as core competences and emphasizes student-learning skills. This requires the students to have a learning experience with specific decision-making activities. In this study, worksheets for improving decision-making ability based on ethical dilemma solution model were developed and implemented in Life ScienceⅠ, and it looked at the impact it has on the decision making ability of high school students and their perception of the class. 6 topics related to life science I were selected; 'Huntington's chorea', 'Zika virus', 'Coffee cultivation method', 'GMO', 'Testing cosmetics on animals', and 'Brain science'. And 5 factors of decision-making steps were included in the worksheets; ‘Identification of problem’, ‘Generation of alternatives’, ‘Identification of values for selection criteria’, ‘Evaluation of alternatives’, abd ‘Prediction of consequence’. 6 lessons were applied to 59 10th grade students for 2 weeks. After handing out the worksheets to the students, they were introduced ethical dilemma and the problem was then identification and described. The relevant information was distributed, the issues were explained in the biological context, and the questions presented in the worksheets were answered individually.
The decision-making ability test conducted before and after the class showed that the student's decision making skills improved(p<.001). By the factors of decision-making steps, the scores of 'Identification of problem', 'Generation of alternatives', 'Evaluation of alternatives' steps were increased meaningfully(p<.001) and those of 'Identification of values for selection criteria' and 'Prediction of consequence' were also increased meaningfully(p<.01). The result of analyzing the worksheets in each class showed steady rise in scores of decision-making ability. There were significant improvements in the `Identification of problem` steps and ‘Prediction of consequence’ steps(p<.05), but, there was no significant improvement in ‘Generation of alternatives’ steps, ‘Identification of values for selection criteria’ steps and ‘Evaluation of alternatives’ steps(p>.05).
The result of analyzing the worksheets in each topics showed there was no significant improvement(p>.05). In the steps of the `Identification of problem`, significant differences were showed between 'Coffee cultivation method' and 'Testing cosmetics on animals'(p<.05), but there was no significant differences in the rest of the steps(p>.05).
Most students replied to survey that they were interested in these classes and didn’t feel difficulty. And they were willing to participate these classes continuously and got some help to think about socioscientific issues. Based on these results, the ethical dilemma solution instruction are effective in improving high school students’ decision-making ability, and the students had positive thoughts about this instruction. A variety of topics and activities should be explored and applied differently for more effective ethical dilemma solution instruction.
국문 초록 (Abstract)
과학 교육의 목적인 과학적 소양의 함양을 위해 2015 개정 과학과 교육과정에서는 과학적 문제 해결력과 과학적 의사소통 능력을 핵심역량으로 정하고 이에 대한 교수-학습을 강조하고 있다. 이를 위해서는 학생들에게 구체적인 의사결정 활동의 학습 경험이 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 윤리적 궁지 해결 모형에 근거하여 의사결정 능력을 함양하기 위한 활동지를 개발하여 생명과학Ⅰ 수업에 적용하였고, 이러한 윤리적 궁지 해결 수업이 고등학생의 의사결정 능력에 미치는 영향과 이 수업에 대한 학생들의 인식을 살펴보았다.
생명과학Ⅰ과 관련된 내용으로 ‘화장품 동물실험’, ‘헌팅턴 무도병’, ‘GMO’, ‘뇌과학’, ‘지카 바이러스’, ‘커피 재배 방식’ 등 6개의 주제를 선정하였다. 학생용 활동지에는 각 주제에 대한 윤리적 궁지 상황이 제시되고 이에 대해 학생들이 의사결정을 하는 과정에서 5개의 의사결정 요소(문제 인식, 대안 생성, 가치 준거 설정, 대안 평가, 결과 검토)가 포함되도록 구성하였다. 고등학교 1학년 2개 학급 59명을 대상으로 2주 동안 6차시 수업을 적용하였다. 활동지를 배부한 뒤에 윤리적 궁지 상황을 소개하고 상황에 대한 문제를 인식하여 서술하게 하였다. 안내 자료를 배부하고 쟁점과 관련된 생물학적 내용을 설명하고 활동지에 제시된 질문들에 대해 개별적으로 응답을 작성하도록 하였다.
수업 전과 후에 실시한 의사결정 능력 검사 결과, 학생들의 의사결정 능력은 향상된 것으로 나타났다(p<.001). 의사결정의 활동 단계별로 살펴보면, ‘문제 인식’과 ‘대안 생성’, ‘대안 평가’ 단계에서는 크게 향상되었고(p<.001), ‘가치 준거 설정’과 ‘대안의 예측’ 단계에서도 향상되었다(p<.01). 수업 과정에서 학생들이 의사결정을 위해 사용한 활동지를 차시별로 분석한 결과, 의사결정 능력 점수의 완만한 상승을 확인할 수 있었다. 단계별로는 ‘문제 인식’ 단계와 ‘결과의 예측’ 단계에서 유의미한 향상이 있었지만(p<.05), ‘대안 생성’, ‘가치 준거 설정’, ‘대안 평가’ 단계에서는 유의미한 향상이 보이지 않았다(p>.05). 활동지를 주제별로 분석한 결과, 통계적으로 유의미한 차이는 없었다(p>.05). 의사결정의 활동 단계별로 살펴봤을 때 ‘문제 인식’ 단계에서는 ‘커피 재배 방식’과 ‘화장품 동물실험’에서 유의미한 차이가 나타났으나(p<.05) 나머지 단계에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다(p>.05). 윤리적 궁지 해결 수업에 대해 학생들은 매우 흥미가 있었다고 응답했으며 그 내용에 대해서는 대부분 쉬웠다고 답하였다. 대부분의 학생들이 이 수업에 대해 지속적으로 참여하고 싶어 하였으며, 생명과학과 관련된 사회적인 문제점을 바라보는 시각에 도움이 되었다고 응답하였다.
따라서 윤리적 궁지 해결 수업은 합리적인 의사결정 과정을 경험할 수 있는 기회를 제공하여 학생들의 의사결정 능력에 향상을 가져왔고 학생들은 이러한 수업에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하였다. 보다 효과적인 윤리적 궁지 해결 수업을 위해 다양한 주제와 활동 방법 등을 모색하고, 연구 대상을 달리하여 적용할 필요가 있다.
