초록Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of subjects who were isolated at home for 14 days after being unintentionally exposed to spaces shared by patients who had tested positive for Middle east respiratory syndrome. Methods: This qualitative phenomenological research study used van Kaam’s methodology. There were six participants. Results: The results were divided into 3 categories, 8 themes, 24 sub-themes, and 141 formulated statements related to the experience of isolation. The three categories were: ‘Beginning of home isolation’, ‘Home isolation process’, and ‘Released from home isolation’. Conclusion: While the unexpected home isolation caused participants to experience negative emotions, such as anxiety, depression, anger, and embarrassment during the isolation period, they were able to experience a positive change in coping skills as the isolation was lifted. Based on the results of this study, social psychological intervention should be prepared to mitigate the negative emotions of the participants during the isolation period.
