초록[abstracts]
[본문의 내용은 제1장 죽음의 문화의 현황, 제2장 과학기술이 윤리의 대상인 이유, 제3장 생명윤리 필요성과 제4장 생명문화 필요성에 대하여 구성되었다. 교황 요한 바오로 2세는 우리사회에 팽배해 있는 생명파괴와 이로 인한 인간존엄성의 훼손과 위협을 가하는 행위를 정당화하고, 권리로 까지 확대하는 하느님 의식이 실종된 문화 사조를 죽음의 문화라 진단하였다. 이러한 죽음의 문화의 주요한 요인은 윤리가 배재된 과학기술, 윤리적 본성을 잃어버린 인간, 윤리가 사라진 사회문화에 있음을 진단하였다. 이와 같이 현 시대상황은 과학기술, 윤리, 문화 이 세 요소들은 각각 분리 되어 우리의 삶과 연계되어 있는 것이 아니고 하나의 삶으로 함께 하고 있으면서 서로 영향을 주고받는다는 것을 살펴보았다. 그러므로 죽음의 문화에서 생명의 문화로 가기 위해서는 새로운 과학기술에 따른, 새로운 윤리, 새로운 문화의 필요성이 요청된다. 즉, 생명윤리, 생명문화의 필요성에 대하여 결론을 도출해낼 수 있었다.
The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of 'culture of death' which the Pope Joannes PaulusⅡ mentioned in Evangelium Vitae. It will investigate why he diagnose this culture as 'culture of death', what are those pathological phenomena, and what are the relationship among scientific technology, ethics, and culture. It consists of four chapters. First chapter articulates reason why this culture is referred as 'culture of death'. Second chapter articulates the reason why new innovative technology requires a new kind of ethics. Third and Fourth chapters explore the need and necessity of the establishment of new ethics and new culture. Nowadays destroying life and violating human dignity through abortion and physician assisted suicide is frequently being carried out in the name of autonomy and justified as the right to choose. Pope Joannes PaulusⅡ diagnosed this trend of our culture as 'culture of death'. The culture of death has been caused by the execution of innovative scientific technology with the absence of ethical understanding. Human beings have forgotten importance and necessity of ethics in our everyday life. There has been strong evidence that scientific technology, ethics and culture are closely interwoven to each others. As the conclusion, this study seeks to defend for the establishment of bioethics and promote culture of life against culture of death.]
